Make a Plan for Your Estate

Although will making may seem daunting to most of us, we do realise that it is very important to protect our families. There is never a right or wrong time to arrange a will, but we advise everyone to have it done sooner rather than later to avoid intestacy law. You are only required to instruct a will once and if any changes happen in your life, the will is able to be amended. We find that some people don't get around it to because they have to take time off work and arrange appointments with their solicitor at least twice. Hopefully we will resolve this problem by having an in-house service in which we will visit the client any day of the week in their home and a time to suit them and arrange their will from start to finish.

Understanding a Trust

Trust is in principle a very simple concept. A trust is a private legal arrangement in which the ownership of someone's assets is transferred to someone else to look after and use to benefit a person or group of people. Most life insurance companies will write a policy in trust for free, which ensures that the policy pays out on time and to the correct person. It also helps to reduce any inheritance tax due.

Continuing Power of Attorney (Scotland)

A lasting power of attorney will be for property, financial affairs, and health and welfare and gives authority to the appointment attorney to handle matters for the donor. If this covers health and welfare, they will only use this power if the document has been registered with the Office of Public Guardian and the donor is not capable of making the decisions themselves.
